The most important aspect of doing great DPS besides staying alive has to do with the shot rotation that is used. For the Marksman, there are two popular builds which will dictate which rotation is used. First the one I use and then second the Armor Penetration build.Abe's Rotation - Serpent Sting, Silencing Shot, Chimera Shot, Arcane Shot, Aimed Shot, Steady Shot (Kill Shot is weaved in when it becomes available)
Here is my build, Abe's Armory.
A few comments on my build and rotation. There are many factors that can impact your rotation. Most of all will be spec, gear, and latency. I do not have the absolute highest DPS spec because I am responsible for having Improved Hunter's Mark for Calzowned's raid as well as keeping True Shot Aura up. If I did not have to insure we had these I could modify my spec to provide a little more DPS. Second, gear has a big impact on what spec and rotation might be best to maximize DPS. And third latency will effect your rotation and performance. I personally picked a server that I knew was close to my physical location. I am typically running between 15 to 25msec for my latency.
To best determine what rotation, spec, and gear will work best for you. I recommend using a Cheeky's-Shandra's spreadsheet that can be acquired at TKASomething.com. The spreadsheet link is on the main page of the AbeHunter.com. We will cover the use of this in a later post.
To best execute a given rotation, you must insure you are casting the appropriate shot at the appropriate time based upon the cooldown of a given shot. I am a strong believer in macroing shot rotations. I believe this provides the best execution while still giving you situational awareness, i.e. making sure you are not standing in fire. I will cover the composition of macros in my next post.
I just noticed I have two next posts I have to do. So I'm going to end this one and start on my next two posts. In either case, get the spreadsheet and start playing around with it.
